January 9, 2011

We left Effingham about 8am and made our first stop at 10am for $53 worth of gas.  Just before noon we entered Kentucky and stopped again at noon for $40 worth of gas.  We had lunch at Cracker Barrel (again) and stopped at 3:30 for $42 worth of gas.  Entered Alabama and were ready to stop for the night so Left Brain could watch the Packer game.  They were far enough ahead that he figured it was safe to watch.  We gassed up again prior to the motel to the tune of about $40.  I figure if we're going to stop for roughly $40 - $50 worth of gas every two hours, we need to drive faster.  Left Brain wasn't able to follow my logic.

I learned a valuable lesson on the way today.  The cooler had come unplugged so I dutifully plugged it in and when I went to get a bottle of water for She Devil everything was quite warm.  Apparently if you plug it in with the little red dot facing upward it becomes a warming oven.  Left Brain flipped it over so the blue dot was facing upwards to re-cool everything.  Needless to say I threw out the tuna salad.

We're tucked away in some motel somewhere in Alabama, not sure what the name of the town is, or the name of the motel for that matter.  The first motel refused to accept cats.  We're found that most will accept pets, generally for an additional fee.  We're watching the weather channel where they are predicting 5 - 10" of snow and significant ice storms.  Everything seems to be shutting down, so we'll see what happens tomorrow.
