Photoshop Lesson continues

We left off yesterday with demonstrating some of the backgrounds that can be applied in Photoshop Elements 7.  Here are a couple more to show more extreme backgrounds.  The striped one is provided as a preset background and the one on the right I created using gradient filters.

Now we'll get into the special filters you can apply.  These can be applied to either the entire image or just the background as I have demonstrated here.

The image on the left is done with a canvas background to give the illusion of a painting.  I've kept the image larger to show more of the detail as it is a subtle effect.

The next effect shows a crackling effect to the background of the bird.  This was done by selecting the bird and then inversing the image to effect just the background.  Or you can create a background layer and move the bird on to it.

I like the way it alters the gradation effect to the background and contrasts with  he softness of the feathers.

This effect is done by using a mosaic filter applied to the entire image.  You could chose to apply this to just the background if you wanted to.

I've stayed with the green background to show the special effects to their fullest, but these filters could be used with any of your background choices.

We'll wrap up tomorrow with a couple more filters and then on to some oddball stuff - my specialty!

Long Live the Queen of Odd!

  1. I've been looking at getting a form of Photoshop. Thanks for the walk through. Photoshop Elements 7 seems to be a decent price too.
