April Fools Day

Mother Nature has quite the sense of humor, doesn't she.  Visions of lawn chairs were dancing in my head while I slept and then woke to see...snow.  Very funny Mother Nature!

Well, yesterday I went to my first meeting of Weight Watchers and sat through the presentation before making my decision to join up again.  It was scary seeing what their scale said...yikes!  But it was a nice shock of reality to get me going.
The presentation is really nice and they stressed the importance of having support in this goal, many of the people there were with buddies. They claim that people lose three times as much weight by doing it as a group.
The afternoon group I'm joining had lost 41 pounds as a group from last week.  One lady asked where it all goes and I raised my hand and said "right here".
Congratulations were given to those achieving various milestones such as 5 pounds, 10 pounds, 20 pounds, 50 pounds and those who have lost 5% and 10% of their body weight. They had a visual aid of what 5 pounds of fat looked like - pretty disgusting.
I was relieved to find nobody had to stand up and say "Hi, I'm Jane Doe and I'm a fattie".  You're the only one that knows your weight, so that was comforting.  I wasn't able to stay for the orientation since I was meeting friends for lunch.
That was a nice treat in the middle of the day to visit two artist friends at Olive Garden. I ordered the ravioli di portobello with soup and salad and kept myself to one breadstick (150 calories).  I was pleased to find that dish is only 450 calories and was delicious and filling.  For supper I prepared parmesan crusted tilapia with steamed broccoli and a little cheese. This lovely lunch reemphasized that it's the people that are important, not what you're eating. It was a two hour lunch and would have been longer if not for the responsible one of our trio who needed to get things done.
I need to study my materials and start tracking all the food I eat, but wasn't up to that today. There's time for that while traveling to the cities for our oldest granddaughter's 10th birthday party.  Uh oh....cake.  I'll deal with it when I get there.  Maybe I'll just say no to the ice cream.  Knowing someone is going to be checking my weight in a week is a good incentive.  Much more powerful than just having She Devil looking over her shoulder and mimicking the scale saying "one a time please".
The afternoon was spent working on my new line of covers for the Kindle.  I completed one of them for myself first and the others are almost done.  The tote bags are finished, but waiting for their photo session.  Keeping busy with sewing helps to avoid the nibbles also and I keep my water class close by at all times.  My daughter got it for me and I refer to it as my big girl sippy cup since it has a screw on lid and straw that won't come out.  Sure makes it nicer to drink water.
Tomorrow the washer comes in the morning and they will haul the old one out.  Sigh...there goes my excuse for not doing laundry.
Long Live the Queen of Procrastination

  1. Yeah!! Congratulations, you have taken a first step. I don't do scales, and when I am at the doctor's office, I wear my heaviest sneakers so that I can blame the bad news on them. So far, it hasn't worked.

Wasn't that a lovely surprise to wake up to this morning? I guess I picked the wrong day to start weeding out my garden!

I can't wait to see your tote bags and kindle covers. They should make an awesome gift. It's time now to make Tootsie's lunch. You have a wonderful day. Maybe the sun will be back tomorrow. Hugs, Edna B.
