Rainy Days in Florida

Although I was so excited to take the cats for a stroller ride first thing in the morning, the heavens decided to open up and cast down rain.  Bummer.

So we went to plan B and headed into Leesburg for a movie.

I needed a good comedy so we opted for Last Vegas and it did not fail to deliver.  Here is a trailer to the movie.

Even those under the age of 60 would find this movie hilarious, but the older folks will appreciate it even more.  There were previews of other movies I want to see, especially one called 'The Book Thief'.

Since we were in an area that had more shopping opportunities than just Wal-Mart, we stopped at Petsmart to pick up yet more toys and a scratching post.  I can't help myself...it's like being a pet supply junkie!

Then I found there was a JoAnn's Fabric nearby so a stop was made there for some supplies. I've been getting questions and requests for some of the things I've shown on my blog.

The idea of making some items for people is appealing, so I think I will create a couple of things and post them with prices for those interested.  My intention is not to make my blog a selling point and if an interest continues I will eventually set up a site on Etsy.

When we got home the rain had diminished to the point Left Brain and I could stuff George and Gracie into the stroller and make a quick run around the park.  We did a fairly large loop, definitely the longest they've ever been on and it was just starting to sprinkle when we got in.

Since all we had for lunch was popcorn we had a little earlier supper consisting of pancakes with caramelized bananas and brown sugar.....yum.  It's like having dinner and dessert at the same time.

I was just about ready for bed when CNN ran their story on Blackfish.  I had been reading about the orca whales at SeaWorld and this intrigued me.  By the time the showing was over I was totally appalled and disgusted at the treatment of these animals.

Several trainers have been attacked and killed while working with these animals and when you consider how such a large intelligent creature like this must feel being stuffed inside a small concrete pool with others with no escape I can see why they would become aggressive.

This amounts to no more than animal cruelty on a large scale and they continue to be held captive for decades because of the revenue they generate.  It's all about the money.  This was, of course, the reason for slavery in the south in the past and the similarities are obvious.  One group of the elite making money over forced labor of captives they don't consider intelligent.  It was wrong then and it's wrong now.

Ooooh....don't get me started.  We both agreed that we need to talk to our family that is coming to visit this winter why we will not be able to attend SeaWorld, should they continue to want to go themselves.

Long Live the Queen of Rainy Days

  1. I think it's only proper that we should all help sponsor those kitties need for more stuff by purchasing your creations...

  2. I hadn't given a lot of thought to this situation at Sea World. I will say that I have never been to Sea World, and I won't now that I know this. I don't believe in animal cruelty. It sounds like you're already loving that new stroller. I got my monies worth out of mine years ago. Best thing I bought for my little doggie. I found another idea for your sewing craft, and will send it to you via email. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.

  4. I look forward to your little shop! I am in full agreement about the topic of animal abuse and not supporting it in any way. Cruelty is wrong and is often about money.
