Another day in Cave Creek

our view at night when the sun goes down

Last night we were enjoying the cool desert air as we slept snuggled in our RV.  At least until the yipping and howling began.  No, it wasn’t noisy neighbors…at least not of the human variety.  We were being serenaded by a pack of coyotes.  Once we figured it out and realized we were in no danger we both laughed and went back to sleep.

In the morning we were greeted with hot air balloons cresting the mountains.  It would have made a much better photo op had they come from the other direction, but hey…nobody consults me on this stuff so I just have to take what I can get.
This is our scooter, Harley Worth-It. He makes it easy to run around and get photos as well as back and forth to the shower house and just riding around for the fun of it.
After breakfast we did some minor cleanup around the rig and headed out for a hike through the desert.  The trail kept going upwards but not steep.  It leads to an abandoned mine but it was all blocked off so you couldn’t go inside to see more.

I just can’t get enough of these yellow blooms everywhere.  There’s something about flowers the color of sunshine that just lighten your mood.

The scenery was accented by the half-moon remaining in the sky, so I kept looking for shots to add it into the landscape photos.
We could see See-More from the top of the hill
There was a question as to why I was learning to drive See-More.  The writer didn’t go so far as to check into my mental status since Left Brain does a great job of driving and why was I bothering?  Well, let me explain.
Driving See-More is easier than sitting on top of a cactus!
This is not just a recreational vehicle for some time use.  It is our home and I feel I need to understand every aspect of how it operates, from driving it to dealing with the plumbing and electrical issues.  Should something bad happen to Left Brain I’d be in a tight spot if I couldn’t take over control of the RV.  So, it’s not for the love of doing it, it’s for the necessity.  I feel like every day I conquer yet another fear.

one of the many trail rides through the mountains
I spent the afternoon working on my laundry baskets.  Yup.  That’s what I said.  When I did laundry back at North Ranch a lady accused me of taking her laundry basket as I filled it full of clothes from the dryer.  Since I put it on top of the dryer to indicate it was being used I knew this was not the fact, but I’m a good sport.  I carried my clothes home and returned it to her.  It’s not worth the hassle to have bad feelings.

It is confusing since we all tend to have the same standard Wal-mart issue folding mesh bags and they only come in two colors.  So I decided to add some decorative yarn to the handles to make it clear that they are mine.

While we were exploring Cave Creek we took care of some banking business as well.  Since our bank back home is only a local bank, we are in the process of switching everything to a bank that is found throughout the US.  This way we can close out the old account when we’re back in Wisconsin.

We had lunch at the Buffalo Chip Saloon in Cave Creek and split a platter of brisket, sausage, pork and beans with some honey biscuits.  It was more than enough for the two of us.  This place is quite the joint with shells on the floor and the walls covered with deer, buffalo and moose heads.  The moose was wearing a Green Bay Packer hat.

They advertise that they have all the Packer games on ten televisions.  They also have live pro bull riding on Wednesday and Friday nights as well as live music.  They offer catering services, but only up to 10,000 people.  Yikes!  That would be one heck of a catering job.

The rest of the day we sat in the shade and read our kindles and watched the birds.  The wind is picking up a lot right now so my photography is done for the day.  Hmmm, maybe a nap is in order.

Long Live the Queen of Cave Creek

  1. I love your photos. The sunset, the scenery, the moon, they are all beautiful. If I were in your place, I would also understand the need to be able to drive the RV and know how to tend to it. I think it is wonderful that you are taking to it so quickly. What are those yellow flowers? They really are so pretty and cheerful. Enjoy your Kindles and have a great night. Hugs, Edna B.

  3. Well, of course you know I questioned you in jest ... and in reality, I knew why you would be doing it as it is the logical thing to do. I am impressed, as well, that you are doing it so handily. I can't imagine myself backing See-More into anything but the wide open spaces. You are a smart and wise women and you will be perfect as soon as you get a cat :) (I know ... makes no sense, just came into my mind :(

Your pictures are wonderful ... I love the soft sunset over the desert. I am a sucker for sunsets and sunrises and you have captured some beauties. And, I have to agree, yellow flowers are uplifting. In the summer I have a garden full of "volunteer" sunflowers, planted by the birds and squirrels that I feed. They are wild, gangly and big, but oh so beautiful. And by August they are full of gold finch feeding off of the seeds in the maturing flowers. Right now (as it is still in the 30's and the lake is still frozen) I would give my eye teeth for a wiff of warm spring air and a sign of spring flowers. So enjoy the choices that you have made and live the wonderfully intriguing life style that changes with each day. How many of us would love to lay in bed listening to the yipping and yowling of a pack of Coyotes ... ah, Nature. You have to love it ... Be well, Queen of Great Accomplishments" . Till we meet again ...
