Charleston SC

We've only got a couple more days left here so we headed to the downtown area to walk around.

You gotta love people that will build a wall around the tree limb.
We did a tour of the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon and the Old Slave Mart Museum, where no photos were allowed.

The narrator at the Dungeon was interesting and he talked about a pirate named Major Stede Bonnet who just kept doing everything wrong and it was very humorous.  All I could think of was Johnny Depp as Capt Jack Sparrow.  I've included a link if you'd like to learn more about him.

We stopped at A.W. Shucks for lunch and I had the seafood jambalaya and Left Brain opted for the crab cake.  I need to focus on the crab and lobster in this part of the country yet and wait for jambalaya when I hit Cajun country.  It was okay but nothing special....Left Brain loved his entree.

There are so many pretty buildings and cobblestone streets to admire, lots of window boxes and colorful plants.

I always admire the tenacity of a fern to sprout out of a brick wall.

We ended our excursion by going to the Waterfront Park.  It was a perfect day weatherwise for wandering about, and I had to laugh at the signs in the area.

After we returned home we sat outside with the cats in their little tent and read for a while.  I think we'll use our last day here to tour the Magnolia Plantation.

  1. Cheryl, you outdid yourself with the pirate history link read in total, and pictures, especially one of bird sipping drink from people's fountain. If you were here, I would share some feathery pampess (sp) grass with you, who would appreciate how it waves in the wind. pond lois

  3. Charleston....a place we're interested in visiting some day. If the plans entail a stop in New Orleans eventually, I guarantee the Cajun Food won't disappoint. I'd return just for the food :-) Is it possible your photography is getting even better? Great photos!

  4. Great photos! That brick wall is awesome. That fern growing out of the wall is something that I would stop to photograph. I love your bird photos, especially the one where the bird is drinking from the fountain. Great shot!! I hope you're missing all this miserable weather that's been moving up the coast. I'm off to get ready for work now. You have a fabulous day. Hugs, Edna B.
