Mandarin Orange Monday

Since I didn't have any photos prepared for today,I'm doing a little book review, since the title is appropriate.

'Orange is the New Black' by Piper Kerman gives a fascinating glimpse into what it's like to be in a medium security prison.

She fully admits her faults and accepts serving her time and is very candid as to how her incarceration varies from those who are not white, educated and middle class.

It provides a lot of food for thought on the issue of mandatory minimums brought about due to the war on drugs, and how there are fewer deaths caused by drugs than tobacco and yet that is subsidized.

She is an interesting writer and it was a fun read as well as educational.  I see that this will also be a Netflix series.

Be sure to read her acknowledgements at the end of the book where she brings several issues to light.

  2. I saw the ads for the book, but I'm not into prison stories. I do like the color though. You have a beautiful day, hugs, Edna B.
