Photoshop Friday -removing the sign and blurring background

During our travels we visited Mystic Seaport in Mystic CT.

One of the costumed guides had on this lovely outfit and her pose was perfect, but I didn't like the jarring effect of the modern sign.



Oh what to do?  Well, remove it of course!  Then I used the selection tool to capture her and inverted it so I could apply a glaussian blur to the background.



This has two benefits.  It softens the background to make her more prominent and also covers up any cloning errors I made removing the sign.

    Wow, you caught the perfect pose. You did a good job fading out the background. I'll bet she would make a great addition to a different background altogether. Hmmmm. You have a fun day, hugs, Edna B.

    Hi Cheryl, another way to do this effect is to remove the sign, like you did, then select the woman like you did only this time put her on another layer (CTRL+J). Now go back to the original layer and apply your Gaussian blur. If you think the contrast is too great between the woman and the background now, go to the layer with the woman on it and take a soft round brush and just soften some of the edges. Works great! I love your photo.
