Mild weather Monday

Thank goodness the weather has returned to a more springlike nature, the way it should be.  Left Brain went golfing with Larry so I took the opportunity to take care of some business.

It was another nice day for hanging the laundry out while I took care of some indoor jobs before heading out on my shopping spree.  I had auditioned several throw rugs for the hallway and doorway and it was time to return the losers.

I also wanted to get another bird feeder for the RV.  We've started to hang up the ones that use suction cups on the windows.  Since they are way too high to refill without a ladder I've discovered if I position them properly I can fill them from inside the RV.  Pulling open the screen is also a nice way to shoot photos from the inside and have a clear view.

The sock feeder was completely empty so that needed to be filled.  The red winged blackbird seems to be in love with this one.  The chickadee likes coming to the window feeder for the mealworms.  But this is the one that suprised me the most.

I had only had the oriole feeder up for about an hour before I noticed I had my first caller.  There's a space to add some liquid for them as well, but I didn't have any of the nectar for that.  But I had half an orange and the grape jelly they love.

Question for my bird people out there:  Do I need to buy the packaged oriole nectar or can I feed them orange gatorade or something else?  I've always been suspect of those packaged, colored mixes.

  1. We just put out the jelly since there is plenty of liquid in it.

  2. I've never had an oriole here so I don't know. I would stick with the orange and the jelly. Actually, I'm going to try that myself. Your photos are just beautiful. And that clothesline full of laundry brings back so many fun memories. You have a fabulous day. Hugs, Edna B.

  4. I am running way late with this response, but I can tell you what I do for my Orioles. I make a nectar with sugar and water (four cups of water to one cup of sugar). I bring it to a boil(stirring perodically) and simmer for a few minutes then set it aside to cool. When it is cool, I pour it in a pitcher and put it in the refrigerator. I use the same nectar for the orioles and the hummingbirds and they all love it. I am pretty sure that is what you get when you buy it only with orange or red food coloring ... then they rip you with the price. The orange and the grape jelly are what really attracts the Orioles, but they do drink if it is there. They are awesome and I love the constant songs of the male. Best I can do for you Queen of Birdfeeders ...
