Living in a State of Confusion

I'm having a Twilight Zone experience lately, as nothing seems to be as it should.

I've set up multiple feeders to please all the birds, but they don't seem to get with the program.

For instance, this is the hummingbird feeder set up for the...well, you know...the hummingbirds.  Little tiny creatures.  But this oriole is trying his darnest to get into the sugar water even though he has lots of oranges and feeders just for him.

In an effort to try to stay on our diets I tossed my cookies...oh wait, that didn't sound right.  Let me try again.  I broke up the molasses cookies into small pieces and set them on the table for the birds.

I figured the red winged blackbirds would really love these and if not the squirrels would appreciate them.  Worse scene scenario is that we'd have raccoons invading the feeder, which isn't a big deal, we were used to that at the old house.

The night was warm and the windows were open when all of a sudden I looked at Left Brain and admonished him for what I thought was a "silent but deadly" gas leak.  He thought it was me.

As we took in the odor it smelled familiar and when I shined the flashlight at the feeder it was confirmed.  We had a skunk up close and personal.

Now you're just going to have to take my word for this because I didn't want to, shall we say...excite him by snapping a photo as proof.  But I'm positive with black and white fluffy fur it was a skunk, as if the smell wasn't confirmation enough.

We never had these at the old house, so this was a first and hopefully a last.  I was hoping it didn't discover the robin's nest behind the front grill of the RV.  That night I had dreams that it had climbed up for an early breakfast of eggs and then managed to wiggle it's way through the engine and under the dashboard.  I don't know if that's even possible, but seeing one in the house would really stump me as to what to do.

Apparently I'm not the only one with confusion issues as my friend JuJu Bean sent a text yesterday asking if she was early or was I late as we'd agreed to meet at Panera at 11:00.  She had the right time and place, but the wrong day.  But since she left without eating I jumped on Harley Worth-It and scootered my way into town to meet with her at Pickermans.

We had a lovely lunch until I saw the rain starting to come down.  Uh oh.  It seemed like such a nice day.  Left Brain was back from golfing by then and offered to be my knight in shining armor and come and get the bike, but after another half an hour of gabfest with her the rain stopped and the sun came out.

So I motored my way back to the Island, stopping at the quilt shop for a couple more things I need to finish some projects and start some new ones.  It's good to have these things ready for those rainy days.

Long Live the Queen of Confusion....or should this post have been titled "Confusion Says..."?

  1. I've never seen an oriole up close like this. Such beautiful birds. As for the skunk, so glad he's in your yard and not mine. It's really hard to get rid of the stink. lol. You have a wonderful night, hugs, Edna B.
