Raymond WA

After leaving the Valley of the Jolly Hoh Hoh Hoh Rainforest (try singing it...it works) we settled in a little town called Raymond.  I had read about all the metal sculptures along the bike trail and it sounded like fun, so off we went.

A parting glimpse of the rainforest before we move on.

We pulled into the what we thought was our marina that had RV spaces, but it was not....then we found the car's battery had died.

But I found a nice man with jumper cables and soon we were on our way again.  We do carry them, but they were buried under a bunch of stuff in the back.  Hey what can I say?  Who can deny an old lady?

Our lodgings in Raymond are at the Raymond RV Park on the Willapa River.  We have full hookups, strong internet, satellite for our TV and a fantastic view over the bay as well.  Plus, we are right at one of the trail heads for the bike path so we can explore Raymond and South Bend just down the road.

our spot in Raymond WA

our first sunset that night

This part of Willapa Harbor is known as the Scenic Highway 101 Willapa Heritage Corridor.  The goal of the project was to wake people up and say "here is Raymond".  I think it was a success.

You can't miss the statues...they are literally everywhere.  The brochure said there were over 200 and I think they must have added some since that printing.

And the fun thing is they are positioned in areas where they fit, like this cool lady waiting for the bus.  I blurred out the background on the center image to show the detail.  Love that face!
Here's a pharmacist standing outside the drug store.

Even the backs are interesting.  The pieces are made by various artists, some are flat and many have a great deal of dimension.

All are fun and quirky.

Driving the hog to market

I altered the background of this lady near the farmers market to compliment her theme.

  2. These are really interesting. What kind of metal are they? Do they rust or are they treated? How unique!

  3. Wow, is this an artist community? Are the scupturs local people or were they brought in by the community. What a great place for taking pictures (and I am impressed with your alterations ... even knowing where they were needed is pretty tricky) ... is this all on a bike trail or is it in town? I have drivin along the scenic 101 highway on my way to Bellingham. If you go there be sure to go out in the bay so you can see the Orcas ... very exciting I am told (of course they weren't there when I was looking for them). I didn't get a chance to comment on your Preferred George, now that GClooney is not available. To be honest, though I like him as an actor, I never got what all the fuss was over him. Like you, I would like your George much better. Your travels have been more than exciting this year. I can't wait to see where you go next, Queen of the Road ... Just be safe and enjoy :)

  4. Oh what fun!! I just finished reading this post and the last one, and I have to say the photos are just AWESOME!!! I love all the sculptures, and the photos taken in the forest are fantastic. My hubby would have started singing the same "lettuce" song. Great minds think alike!

Your new spot looks wonderful, and I love that sunset photo. What a great view. I love being by the water. Keep an eye for the "blood moon" which is due October 8th. On the west coast, you should be able to see it around 3:25 a.m. for about an hour. Good luck. Have a wonderful evening. Hugs, Edna B.
