Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

We have been at this incredible state park for eight days now, and tomorrow we head for Alabama.  The park had been a private campground in a prior life, so it has many perks most State Parks don't have, and at $47 a night it should.  I know that doesn't sound like a lot to people who don't RV as it's much cheaper than any motel you could find; but remember...we have our own house with us.  There's no pool or abundance of social activities, so it's pretty much the fee for water, sewer and electric....and location.

The sites are concrete and surrounded by mature growth, providing shade and privacy, with full hookups.

There's an abundance of birds and squirrels to entertain George and Gracie.  We even had a surprise visit by a raccoon in a nearby tree.

this lovely peony bloom had fallen off the tree near the laundry room, so I took it home to adorn my picnic table

this bush is outside of dining room window - privacy and a nice view...can't beat that

We are able to connect directly to the bike trail without having to load up and transport them and there is also a route to the beach.

There was so much rain that the bike areas were flooded, prompting this young man to try his hand at fishing.
Actually, he's just playing along with me when I asked him to pose for this photo....what a good sport.

Since it's so easy to get around on the bikes, we've been taking them out to eat in the city nearby.

Long Live the Queen of Parks

  2. It does look nice there. The raccoon in the tree, during daylight hours concerns me, though.
I really liked Alabama, when I went through there with Bill. I must say that I love Tennessee.

  3. That looks like the Gulf Coast ... is that where you are? Don't get spoiled and expect a lot from other state parks ... I can tell you in Illinois, there hasn't been any money for the state parks for a long time and though they are nice, I don't know what you are going to find in the way of perks. They do allow bikes on the trails though and if you go down by the river it is beautiful. Making the poor young man act like a fisherman fishing in a puddle ... what were you thinking? You make me laugh on a regular basis ... and that is a good thing Queen of Humor. Have a safe trip to Alabama :)

  4. I loved the humor in the that last shot too. Isn't it wonderful how accommodating some folks can be? Have a safe trip to your next park. I can't wait to see your photos. I'm at work, so you have a wonderful night, hugs, Edna B.

  5. BTW that bush is a red tip photina. FYI a great hedge plant but can easily get scale/ powdery mildew. As for your fisherman I missed the fishing pole and thought he was taking a leak... and boy did he have to go!
