Taking a "Me" Day

Don't get me wrong, I adore Left Brain...but sometimes I just need to venture out on my own and seek the company of women strangers.  This is not to be confused with stranger women...those would be my so called normal friends.

I had the luxury of spending time at the Suwannee Valley Quilt Shop in Trenton FL - an eclectic blend of quilting fabric, books, notions, a cafe, soda fountain...and Sonny.  We'll get to him later in this blog.

When you first enter the shop you see the dining area, surrounded by quilts, of course.  How could you not enjoy dining in this cozy room?

The store is full of antiques such as this hutch where they sold jams and jellies.

And what quilt shop have you visited recently that had an actual soda fountain with tables for dining?

There were the usual supply of fabrics, and books...and quite an abundance of those.

But the hit of the store (to me, at least) was Sonny.  He's a large gray parrot that has a huge cage in the back of the store and he's a charmer.

As women are gathered at the cutting table, talking and laughing; he's in the back going through his repertoire of sounds.

There was the traditional wolf whistle, that seems to please all the ladies.  But when you'd start to laugh at this, he'd laugh with you in a parroty "hahahaha".  I think I'm in love.

When he'd stay too long on the warning sound of a truck backing up ...which is quite loud...there'd be a group cry of "Sonny!" to ask him to move to something else.  Nothing can compare to the joy of being with women laughing.

My favorite call was his cat impersonation with a very convincing meow.  Maybe he's a cat bird?

When I was having my fabric cut, one of the customers suddenly said "I know the perfect accent fabric for that" and took off running to retrieve the bolt.  She was right and now I'm ready to make my pillow cases.

After leaving the quilt shop I went to have a leisurely lunch...just me and my Kindle spending some quality time together.  It doesn't get any better than this!

Then I made one last stop at Wal-mart to pick up some sundry supplies and who do I run into but my new quilt friend.  I'm starting to feel like I belong here now...it must be time to leave again.

The the Quilt Festival takes place on Saturday, so I will be returning for that...alone again and with Left Brain's blessing.

Long Live the Queen

  3. What a really cool place. I am not a craft or art person. I am more of a wordsmith. I enjoy this kind of place however. It must have been like heaven for you, as crafty as you are!

  4. I don't quilt but I would so love this little store. I'm getting the bug to change the fabric on the cornices in our RV. I already made new bedroom curtains but that was easy and didn't require Al's help. Right now I'm getting the eye roll with there's nothing wrong with this fabric response. Time will tell who wins this battle.....hehe!
