Gooseberry Falls

After traumatizing the cats with pulling in slides and starting up the engine we headed north for our first day of adventure at Gooseberry Falls.

We arrived and set up....ooops, no hookups.  Kinda forgot about that.  Oh well, we'll make do.

The first thing we did was hike down to the falls to explore.

Yup.  We're the kind of grandparents that let the kids play on the edge of the falls.

They run much faster in the spring, so this is not the most dramatic time of year to view them, but they were still fun to see.

the girls had to hold the rocks up  with their brute strength

Thank goodness we had reservations because the campground is full, mostly tents and small trailers.

After we returned we sat outside to have a family council and decide if we really wanted to stay here for two more nights.  It didn't take long to learn that one night was plenty and we were ready to head to Grand Marais for a three day stay.

By cutting this short we also will get four days in Thunder Bay and that is the real destination anyway, so this is a good thing.

All went well.  No fights.  No cats escaped.

  1. I see, now that I am here, that I have missed several of your fun days. Oh my, you do keep busy and you are the perfect Grandparents ... teaching the kids about living in a Canned Ham and playing Cribbage to get them ready for school ... you are a bit wily my dear, but a very good version of wily :)

You have seen (and shared) so many beautiful places. I am a vicaious travelor with you. My Right-brained husband, being a hermit by proclamation, isn't interested in going anywhere. And my travel companion had a tragic event in her life ... so I am home bound for the time being. Hopefully I will get out on the road again, but it won't be any time soon (wearing face of sadness). So that is to say, you are stuck with me tagging along with you from afar. I am looking forward to our trips :) Stay well, Queen of unknown stowaways.

  2. I love waterfalls. These pictures are excellent! We have been to several throughout the U.P. and Michigan. Thank you for sharing.
