One week with the kitties

There's been a lot of changes in the first week of our feline family.  They went from hiding in the bedroom to brazenly claiming the RV as their own domain.

The vacuum cleaner has been tolerated at a distance in our efforts to thwart their plans to decorate the carpet in litter.

The bed has been deemed to be safe to enter for snuggles and rubs at any hour of the day they choose.  It feels so good to have the weight of a cat curled up against you.  I was enjoying that the other night but when I went to pet it, it turned out to be Left Brain's arm.

To have cats in the house means you are never lonely when visiting the bathroom in the middle of the night.  They diligently arrive for pets and caresses.  The bathtub amazes them and I will have to introduce one of the jingle balls for them to bat around the arena soon....but only during daylight hours.

Breakfast time (also of their chosing) would beg us to believe they have just been rescued off the street and have not eatten for several days.  It has reminded me of the Ojibwa name for cats which literally translated means "greedy one".

They have learned to tolerate the sounds of the park, with cars, trucks and motorcycles passing by frequently.  These no longer seem to be of much interest.

The birds at the window feeder amuse them but attacks on them have lessened.  Now they content themselves to watch the window in the same way we stare at the TV, waiting to see how the show will end.

The rainstorms with thunder continue to frighten George somewhat, but now the pattering of rain on the roof doesn't affect them at all.

But the one constant fright they continue to have is when the furnace kicks on.  They both run, wild-eyed, to find a place of refuge from the hot breathe of the evil monster that seems to live in the belly of their kingdom.  My hope is that this will pass also, but isn't a big concern as we seldom have to turn on the heat.  Being mobile if the weather is that lousy we can always roll onwards.

Just as we learned to settle into a routine with the two of us, they have also.  In the morning they eat and then play for a bit.  This is followed by a nap, which is now often on the couch or chair instead of in hiding.

They have truly melded into our family and we couldn't be more proud.  All it takes is a look and pat on the lap to have one or them running.  It's hard to believe that less than a week ago it was hard to get George to allow us to pick him up to be held.  Now he just goes limp and settles right into our embrace.

Sigh...life is good.

Long Live the Queen of Contentment

  1. I love your photos. I agree that life really is good with fur babies to cuddle with. I cannot imagine a world without them. I'm so glad that George and Gracie are settling in so comfy. I think it's amazing how they will be content to just sit and watch the birds at the feeder. I may have to try one of those little feeders outside my window too. I will have to put cayenne pepper in mine to keep the squirrels out though. You have a fabulous day, hugs, Edna B.
