May Day May Day

Today is the third anniversary or our living in the motorhome, a concept difficult for me to grasp.

Friends of ours have a hard time believing we are still married.

We've learned so much over the last three years, about RV life and about ourselves.

I've found that living small has made me appreciate how much I have and how very little I really need.

I'm living in the present more and more and enjoying the people that come in and out of my life now that I don't have a surplus of "things" getting in the way.

I had lunch with my other vagabond friend, Marti, today and we swapped stories about what we've been up to for the last few months.

She and her husband sold the house and have traveled extensively in Europe and now wander the US in their "home free" lifestyle.  She has come to a similar conclusion of how fulfilling it is to lead a simplified lifestyle.

Neither of us has any exit strategy or deadline for when this phase of our life will end.  We intend to just keep enjoying it one day at a time and not worrying about tomorrow.

They are in the process of preparing for a trip to Alaska and I for one can't wait to see the photos and follow her adventures.

As you can see by the skydiving photo, she has a zest for life and is fearless.

If you'd like to get a sample of her experiences you can find her blog at thrumartiseyes.blogspot.com.

  2. I can't imagine doing that for three years...but then, your home you would always have with you. Have either of you been really sick during this time? Have you had to go to hospital for tests? I have not read back to older posts, so if you have answered these, just point me to that.

    1. My husband passed out (while driving the RV) in Oregon. Luckily we were going slow and I was able to take control quickly and we didn't hit anyone or get hit by the other cars. He was in the ER overnight and then we had a follow up with a cardiologist further down the road. Now we're getting it checked out further by the doctor that has overseen his care for some time. I did write about this - it would be back in October I believe (hard to believe I'd forget the date). It was my worst fear come true and now that fear has been conquered. I think I titled it something like "We are okay" or something like that.

  3. Lunch was great. This Home Free lifestyle is all and more than I had expected. I can't believe you have been out there three years. I do remember you getting out in time so that you didn't have to do all of the spring clean up in your beautiful gardens! I copied you pretty well. We closed June 6th but had pre-warned the buyer that spring clean up was not complete. Happy Trails to you!

    1. I forgot to have our waitress get a photo of us for the blog - plus I didn't want to get my potential cold germs too close to you, so I ran one of my favorites of you skydiving.

  4. You are happy. I think you have your priorities in order; it shows. I think it is so cool that you have a friend who can relate to your present lifestyle, too. Especially when compared to the past. I enjoy your posts about what you do, where you go, what you see. I traveled a lot when I was young, and some with Bill. I love what this country offers. Thanks for sharing it.

  6. Happy Anniversary to you and Left Brain. I think your current lifestyle is awesome. I've been traveling along with you all around the country (through your posts and photos) and I'm loving it. I do stop in once in a while to follow your friend Marti. Her photos are simply gorgeous! Gosh, what a brave lady. Skydiving!!

I've been busy this morning with online shopping. My youngest grandson graduates high school next month. After that, Jazzy will be the last of the grandchildren to finish high school, then I'll be waiting to watch all the greats on their journey through school. Actually, the oldest great is already in Jr high. Gosh, where has all the time gone?

I wish you and Pete a fabulous weekend as you celebrate this wonderful milestone. Hugs, Edna B.

  7. Both of your adventures are great....keep the stories coming! I hope you both stop in when our paths cross. We are just winter vagabonds and getting ready to head back to where the snow and ice and cold is finally gone. Miss you both at LACC.
