Texas Prison Museum

The weather is less than perfect so we decided to go somewhere to fit the somber mood....prison.

Huntsville TX is about an hour from here and has 16 prisons as well as the Prison Museum.

This exhibit shows the progression of the correctional system over the years from the very bad to the current times, which would still not be a pretty way to live your life.  Hey...I get restless after a couple of days in the RV, living in a 6 X 9 cell with no privacy for using the toilet would totally destroy me.

The main feature of this museum is "Old Sparky", the electric chair that ended the lives of __________________

I think lethal injection would be the much preferred method.

Another feature of the museum is the Prison Rodeo.  Note here that even the boots worn had black and white stripes on them.

Another event they could enter was to retrieve a bag of money strapped to the forehead of a wild bull.  The lucky person who succeeded got to keep the money...and hopefully his life.

It was the perfect getaway for a dreary day and on the way home we stopped at Shrimpboat Manny's so Left Brain could order up a mess of crawfish for supper, something he's always wanted to do.

The photo is a bit blurry, but you can see his excitement.

They are a bit like tiny lobsters and it was a little unnerving to see so many laid our before him.  But he managed to eat most of them and we have a little left over for some crawfish omelets.

  2. Your "prison" photos are great. I love those striped boots! As for the crayfish, Left Brain can have all of them. I don't even like to touch the little critters, let alone eat them. But for lots of folks, they are quite tasty. You have a great day, hugs, Edna B.
