It looks very complicated but it's simply a series of 60 degree triangles. There were other variations on this theme shown on the back, so instead of purchasing the additional patterns I figured I'd just work it out myself....this isn't rocket science.
My first attempt was using the only somewhat "striped" fabric I had, which really wasn't well suited for the project, but I just had to jump right in and try my hand at it.
This is the result of that first attempt before it was quilted.
Then I found a tutorial on the Missouri Star Quilt website (my favorite source for learning something new) and discovered how to add a small flange to the binding that looks like narrow piping has been added.
The advantage to this is it allows you to machine sew the binding in place very easily and I love the effect it creates, setting off the project.
This is the small runner after attaching the binding in this method.
This is the reverse side...fell in love with this funky silverware. |
Now, if you'll excuse me...I have more sewing to do!
Long Live the Queen of Quilting
Who knew you were so brainy ... what a project. It looks like a geometry class to me and that is out of my sphere of talents ... actually anything that smells of mathematics causes signs and symptoms of stress all over my body. So, needless to say, I am impressed ever so much and beyond looking difficult it ended up looking attractive on both sides ... hmmmm, my Queen, I may have underestimated your talents. You surprise me on a regular basis :)

You are so creative on so many levels. I truly admire that. I hope to read more of your writing, too. You are gifted and have much to offer.
ReplyDeleteGosh, how unique this is! I would not even begin to attempt this. My brain only likes simple things now. You really are very talented my friend. This is beautiful. Even the back side looks super. I'm looking forward to getting into some sewing and maybe quilting after the holidays (with my daughter in law).
ReplyDeleteI'm off to take my rugs out of the dryer, and then settle in for a big of crocheting. You have a wonderful evening. Hugs, Edna B.
I LOVE the ruler fabric!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I do like the ruler fabric, too. Not as bold, but still works.
ReplyDeleteThat's why my business name is Artistically Engineered Designs. I do the math and you do the fun stuff.
You are right that it's not rocket science. I had to laugh, I was a Nuclear Engineer. 😄
You purchased the most difficult pattern, so yes, the others are easier to figure out.
I look forward to seeing more designs!

I am honored and humbled to have your comment on this project! I will have to write that it does appear to be rocket science after all! Thank you so much for doing the math so people like me can have so much fun. Let's just say that I'm thankful for having had better eyes in high school than I do now, if I couldn't have stolen answers from the kids next to me I'd still be sitting in that Algebra class!

DeleteIf my Algebra teacher could see me now. . . .
DeleteThe pattern I'm working on now may require some refresher geometry, not for me, but for quilters to cut the 26''wide triangles. More math for me, lotsa fun for you!
Thank you,
Bunnie
