Even though it was pretty cold, these hearty Minnesotans wasted no time in getting into the water and enjoying the waves as they washed over them.
Emily and Ted tried their hand at a little sand volleyball on the beach. Ah, for Emily this just doesn't get any better.
I enjoyed some of the other sights of Laguna Beach as well, such as the permanent furniture provided.
This gentleman was playing chess with a gull...and I do believe the gull was winning. So much for being called a bird brain.
Soon it was time to stop for lunch - overlooking the ocean, of course.
These gulls took over this entire tree when it was time for them to roost.
This mural on the side of a building was colorful and interesting to me.
Here's a view of the houses above us on the hill.
And, of course, where ever you have warm weather you have homeless. This lady was busy knitting away while enjoying the sounds of the ocean.
Long Live the Queen of the Beach
i think experiencing the ocean for the first time is definitely a momentous occasion. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, your girls are getting big ... you didn't take Geoge and Gracie to the beach? They would have loved to see the girls in the water and playing volley ball. They would also have loved some sea food, I suspect. So nice that your family came to see you in such a beautiful place. I know the girls will remember this always ... first time in the ocean! .. . how did they like the way the salt water makes your eyes burn :) That is what I remember the most about my first dip in the sea ... ugh! But, it is beautiful and if the rip tides don't get you, then you have something to write home about, right? Did you find any sand dollars? That was another favorite thing I remember about the California beach. This is a wonderful post, Cheryl ... so glad you had such a good time with your family. I know they were glad that you chose this place to spend your winter in (grrrrr ... it's -12 degrees here. ) You are quite a "beach" of a queen :)

George and Gracie wouldn't have appreciated it as much as the kids, so they stayed home. The family all dealt with the itchy eyes, but thought it was from the sunscreen they put on, I never thought about the salty water. We did have a discussion of riptides with them and how to swim parallel to the coast if pulled out and not to try fighting it. It's always fun to see them experience their firsts and at 12 and 13 it's getting harder to do.
DeleteAwesome trip! The beach any time is fantastic no matter whether it's your first time or you've been a million times.
ReplyDeleteLoved those wave shots.
Your family is beautiful. What awesome photos of them enjoying the ocean. I agree, those wave shots are gorgeous. I'm a wee bit jealous. I love the ocean, but it's a bit cold here to go look at waves. I thought that photo of the lady knitting was super. It tells quite a story. Enjoy your warm weather. It's in the teens here. Have a super day, hugs, Edna B.
